Many many things have changed in the lives of Grísalappalísa’s roster since we started working on this album three years ago. This album is quite different from our previous releases, mostly in the way in which it was written. We wrote Ali and Rökrétt Framhald collectively during extended periods at the garage, in the studio and on the road. This album was written during a period when we were scattered around the globe. The result? A much more experimental and expansive record, containing bits and pieces written and assembled from all over; a frame gilders shop behind Byko in Kópavogur, Berlin, New York, Sarajevo and Amsterdam. We started recording in the summer of 2016 and the final vocal takes were made on a fateful day in Iðnó in late 2018.

This album is about a frequency that no one tunes into, a channel virtually hidden from our perception and whose broadcasts reach only a deep, dark void. It is an echo chamber, a path you find yourself in in the darker times of life and swallows you, ironically, by your own doing. For us, this channel represents depression, anxiety and isolation, to be at a crossroads with yourself and on the margins of society. It’s about experiencing yourself as a failure, an exposure of yourself and the sudden realisation that you won’t be the rockstar that the 16-year-old you wanted to be.

These existential matters are the subject of Týnda rásin along with contemplations relating to the relationship between the self and the poets artistic muse; and the forces of their domestic and public life. The question is, can these forces work together? Must I fall into the mould of the rockstar to be one? Can I maintain a healthy relationship with my loved ones while going out every weekend? This is an album about facing the past with an emancipation towards the future, because no change comes about without the will to change. The drunken storyteller of previous releases is being faced with a stone cold reality he must accept, and not run away from. An image of life which shows society as a catastrophic tornado which you must, in some way, fit into. One moment you’re wearing that vintage leather jacket with a cigarette between your lips, the other you’re in the snow, changing the tires of your Toyota Yaris, which is filled with Bónus shopping bags, on your way to a meditation course wearing a fleece sweater.

Musically these alterations show themselves in a dynamic set of new songs. Týnda Rásin is a musical and emotional rollercoaster of free improvisations, a country hit, and a frantic poetic rant written while being on the verge of a nervous breakdown. These fifteen tracks have been in the making for a long time, and we are excited to share them with our listeners.
